The Great Wall of China

Of course you can’t come to Beijing and not visit the Great Wall! But did you know there are multiple sections of the Wall? The most frequently visited section is Badaling. Although this section is closest to the city, I actually prefer the Mutianyu section. It’s a little less crowded and more scenic. I took my family there last week when they were visiting from the States.  You can take a lift up to the wall and toboggan back down.  We even stopped to have a picnic and a bottle of wine on the Wall!  The views are even more breathtaking than I imagined from pictures.

To get there, take subway line 2 to Dongzhimen exit C. Then bus 916 Express. The cost is 12 Yuan per person.

Get off at Beidajie ( North Street ) in Huairou District
( 62km – One Hour Drive).

From there, you can take another bus (h23 for 3 yuan per person) or a taxi (45 yuan total). We took a taxi- there were 5 of us.

Take a MARKED taxi (DO NOT TAKE A PRIVATE TAXI OFFERING DEALS). A picture of the local taxi is below.
