Beijing Breakfast Street Food

I love going to the farmer’s market in Beijing on Saturday mornings. Everything is cheaper, fresher and I love the atmosphere.  Each week, we try something new: a new fruit, vegetable, or breakfast.  This week’s new food is jian bing from Shan Dong.  Jian bing is a really popular breakfast street food here in Beijing and you see it being made everywhere.

Regular Jian bing is made with an outer shell that is similar to a crepe and has egg, lettuce, and a sauce inside with meat at times.  I’ve had the Beijing jian bing, but jian bing from Shandong Province is a little different. The jian bing from Shangdong is similar, but the outside is like a cornmeal crepe and is crunchy, but has the same things on the inside. Still delicious!jian bing 4

Planning for Spain and Morocco

My first summer trip will be to Spain and Morocco with my oldest son and we are really excited!! Both of us love history, architecture, and art with a mix of adventure, but on a bit of a budget. So here’s the plan so far…

We fly into Madrid but since we have been there before, we won’t spend too much time there this trip.

So our first real stop will be Caceres, a town about 3 hours west of Madrid.  It’s a beautifully preserved Medieval city with so much history.

Stop No. 2 : Merida: A city full of Roman Ruins just a little South of Caceres.

Stop 3: Sevilla: Known for its Flamenco dance.  I hear Casa de la Memoria is the place to go.

Next Stop: Tangier, Morocco via Gibraltar, Spain and down to Marrakech.  My son wants to take a camel ride through the Sahara from Marrakesh to Fez… And so enters the adventure.

Next: back North to Malaga, Spain.  I, of course, will stop in a little town named Almunecar which is about an hour East of Malaga.  I fell in love with this little town on the Southern coast of Spain.

We will stop in Granada on our way back to Madrid.
