I love going to the farmer’s market in Beijing on Saturday mornings. Everything is cheaper, fresher and I love the atmosphere. Each week, we try something new: a new fruit, vegetable, or breakfast. This week’s new food is jian bing from Shan Dong. Jian bing is a really popular breakfast street food here in Beijing and you see it being made everywhere.
Regular Jian bing is made with an outer shell that is similar to a crepe and has egg, lettuce, and a sauce inside with meat at times. I’ve had the Beijing jian bing, but jian bing from Shandong Province is a little different. The jian bing from Shangdong is similar, but the outside is like a cornmeal crepe and is crunchy, but has the same things on the inside. Still delicious!
